Empire Elementary School

School

EmpireESEmpire Elementary School is located at 1260 Monte Rosa in Carson City, Nevada. Enrollment is about 551 students in grades K-5. The Principal is Evelyn Allred, the Vice Principal is Bob Chambers, and the PE Specialist is Mark Gardner. Empire has three crossing guards, at the intersection of Stanton and Monte Rosa, over Gordonia at Cascade, and over Fairview at Pheasant.

Participation in the fall 2009 Walk to School Day was about 47%.

Empire is the most neighborhood-based school in the district, with over 90% of the students living within the walk zone. However, a large number of students are driven to school. In part, families who live east of Fairview Drive at reluctant to have students crossing that street, since traffic speeds on this lawless street greatly exceed speed limits.

SRTS Grant 2009-2011

Empire is one of the eight schools included in the 2009-2011 SRTS grant to the school district of $259K, of which $142K is for infrastructure and $117K for non-infrastructure. Empire was tentatively allocated $500 for infrastructure. Empire is also part of the $500K SRTS grant to Carson City Public Works, which tentatively indentifies several projects near Empire. Proposed infrastructure projects at Empire are in the documents section below.

Sidewalks around Empire and in the neighborhood were installed and upgraded during the summer of 2009 with a Community Develop Block Grant, which is not part of the Safe Routes program, but certainly supports the same goals.
